Officially identified as augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to improve the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. There are currently several different methods for inserting and positioning breast implants.



They may be placed above or below the chest muscles. Here are a few commonly asked questions about breast augmentation surgery:

A. Both saline and silicone implants have been found to be very safe.
Q. What is the breast augmentation surgery like?
A. The procedure usually takes about an hour to perform, and most patients recover within 1 to 2 hours after surgery and are discharged home.
Q. Can I breastfeed after breast augmentation surgery?
A. Most likely, yes.

Breast augmentation is intended to give the patient larger and shapelier breasts. Your breast augmentation consultation will usually include a sizing appointment, which allows you to try on a “look” and get a better idea of what you might look like after breast augmentation surgery. If the breasts are saggy in addition to being too small, an additional procedure that will enhance the result of breast augmentation is a breast lift.

You may be a candidate for liposuction if you have excess subcutaneous fat, which is resistant to diet and exercise. Most liposuction candidates are near normal weight and desire permanent contour changes. Liposculpture can be useful to heavier persons as well. Liposuction is done on an outpatient basis. Small suction tubes are inserted through very small incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is removed.

If you would like to treat facial wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes and in the “crow’s feet” areas, you may be a candidate for Botox®. This procedure works by weakening the muscles that cause facial expressions. Your plastic surgeon can administer Botox in his/her office. Botox must be freshly prepared on the day of injection. Once prepared the medication needs to be used within 12 hours as the potency diminishes with time.
