La Jolla High SchoolLocated in the La Jolla community in San Diego, California, La Jolla High School has an enrollment of 1648 students from grade 9-12. It is part of the San Diego Unified School District. The University of California San Diego and neighboring research and development firms dominate the area. LJHS is a school with a strong emphasis on academic achievement. Over 90% of the school’s graduates continue their education at universities and colleges, with a considerable number attending Ivy League, out-of-state, and University of California institutions. Bishop’s School La Jolla The
Bishop’s School is a college preparatory, independent day school
for students in grades seven through twelve. Strong academics, spirited
athletics, and vibrant arts permit Bishop’s students to expand their
own special talents and interests. The practice of community service is
vital to meeting the goals of an independent school education, and Bishop’s
students on all grade levels complete an annual community service requirement.
La Jolla Country Day School Serving 1020 students from Nursery through grade 12 from throughout San Diego, La Jolla Country Day School is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian, not-for-profit college preparatory school. The school believes that within its academically rigorous atmosphere the display of good character is of supreme importance. La Jolla Country Day values the art of questioning, the fine-tuning of critical thinking ability, and the aptitude to converse effectively within the framework of a traditional liberal arts education. La
Jolla Country DayThe La Jolla Country Day School is highly selective. Louise C. Balmer established it as the Balmer School in 1926. The student-founded political paper known as the Torrey Review, a name derived from the school’s mascot, Torrey pines, and the conservative paper, the National Review, are both funded by the school. In spite of the designations, the papers’ writers stand for a range of political viewpoints, as quite a few liberals, Greens and Objectivists as well as conservatives comprise the staff of both papers. La Jolla Country Day Gizelle Studevent It’s impossible to perceive the physical and emotional ordeal Gizelle Studevent has suffered as she runs determinedly up and down the basketball court in her white and blue La Jolla Country Day uniform. Studevent was lying feebly in a bed at Children’s Hospital after surviving a terrible car accident a little more than four years ago. Her face was distended and her chest was black-and-blue. Now a freshman, Studevent is renowned for her skill on the basketball court. In the 2006 season she became a top scorer for the women’s varsity basketball team and is quickly making a name for herself as the state’s top freshman player. It’s hard to believe that it’s the same Studevent who, along with her father, were hit by a drunk driver, resulting in Studevent’s jaw being shattered, requiring numerous surgeries. La Jolla Country Day High School Applications for admission are usually accepted on a space-available basis. Admissions procedures for prospective students include completion of the application form and grade-specific application materials, a $100 application fee, age-appropriate observations and assessments, and a half-day campus visit. The application materials may be obtained in three ways: 1. By downloading from http://www.ljcds.org/admissions/applying_to_country_day/ 2. By submitting an online inquiry form requesting these materials be delivered by mail 3. By contacting the Admissions Office |
