YMCA San Diego La Jolla
In August 2004 the YMCA of San Diego County signed a 60-month, $557,160 lease for 16,285 square feet of space situated in Salt Creek Industrial Center at 2390 Boswell Road, Suite 300 in Chula Vista. The sports facility moved into its new location in September 2004.

Beside the sports arm, the YMCA also has YMCA Youth & Family Services, which reaches 40,000+ people per annum with over 20 programs, serving all incomes, ages and abilities.


YMCA Youth & Family Services started as a single homeless shelter for youth back in 1970 and now has programs that include the prevention and handling of child abuse, shelter care for distressed and itinerant adolescents, essential living skills training, substance-abuse, gang, and teenage pregnancy prevention, therapy, training and mentoring, after-school programs and much more.

Meanwhile downtown’s old YMCA building has undergone a $9 million makeover, and is now 500 West Hotel. The hotel offers 208 rooms geared to the budget traveler, with an eye-catching price range of $49 to $89/night. The rooms are diminutive and basic, with bathrooms down the hall, but the project is certainly a step up from the usual hostel-like environment. The “Y” is still in the basement and available to guests.

500 West calls itself “San Diego’s hip hybrid hotel,” and it provides guests with a diverse mix of basics, standard features and even a few unexpected luxuries. The modern guest rooms feature big windows for invigorating breezes. In room furnishings and amenities include:

Families are at the center of the La Jolla YMCA’s mission. The Y provides programs and services to develop the strength and importance of the family. The aim is to improve the quality of family time by designing fun and exciting activities for everyone. The YMCA believes in strengthening families through its Adventure Guide programs, offering children and their parents the chance to laugh, love, learn and grow together.

The La Jolla YMCA is located at 8355 Cliffridge Avenue and recently underwent 26,360 square feet of upgrades with paved parking, swimming pool, gymnasium, sports fields and other minor site improvements. The site is 5.25 acres and is currently leased until 2014 at a nominal rental of $1 per year. The Y also reimburses the city for administrative costs, which are about $2500 per year.
